Shrek the Musical

Performs November 4th-13th, 2022

Our Fall production of Shrek the Musical is a great way for families to try performing together even if they can’t commit to long rehearsals!

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears.

“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek.

There is a HUGE variety of roles in this show, and a variety of participation levels. This will be one of the biggest musicals Playful People Productions has ever produced, with a huge set, colorful costumes, exciting choreography, and a stellar song list – we can’t wait to have you join us!

HOW TO AUDITION

Actors should arrive with approximately 1 minute of a song prepared to sing a cappella and from memory. They should expect to do some cold reading from the script and possibly some other acting exercises. They should come in comfortable clothing that allows for ease of movement.

Please choose a musical theater song, rather than a pop song, for your audition. Either uptempo or ballad is fine, you do not need to prepare one of each.
