Playful People Productions Safety Commitment and Policies

Updated June 2023

At the most recent meeting, our COVID Safety Committee approved a motion to remove the masking requirement for all staff, participants, and audience members. Masking is now optional for all rehearsals, performances and events.

As of June 15, 2023, masking is optional for all participants, staff, volunteers, and audience members at all rehearsals, performances and events.

As of April 15, 2023, we will NOT require COVID vaccination for hired staff, volunteers, nor registered participants of any age.

As a reminder, per CDC and Santa Clara County Public Health guidelines, the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated, and get a booster when eligible.

Playful People Productions reserves the right to adjust our requirements and guidelines as current circumstances may warrant.

As of April 15, 2023, we do not require COVID vaccination for hired staff, volunteers, audience members, nor registered participants of any age.

We are deferring to the Santa Clara County definition of fully vaccinated.

You may present your physical vaccination card, a picture of your vaccination card, or a digital vaccination record. California residents may request a digital vaccination record at MyVaccineRecord.cdph.ca.gov.

Wonderful! We are thrilled to have your help! Volunteers are required to adhere to current mask guidelines at all times.

We do not require vaccination for our volunteers.

Face coverings/masks are optional for audience members – no longer required as of June 2023.

Ticket holders may request a link to a performance livestream (with some exceptions) in the event that illness prevents in person attendance. Please contact us here to request a link.

We offer virtual programming in response to the desires of the community and the development of the pandemic, as possible. This may include recording or live streaming of performances, virtual attendance class and workshops, and other possibilities.

We are in the process of updating our policy for performers and will post here as soon as it has been approved by our committee members.

Playful People Productions Mask Policy for Performers FAQ

In general, participants may perform without masks. PPP requires that if you will be performing without a mask, you get tested before tech week and show weekends. Minors who wish to perform without masks must obtain written permission from their parents or guardians.

PPP currently requires that masks be worn in the rehearsal and practice rooms. During tech week, those who will perform without masks may rehearse without masks while on stage. Masks are not required outdoors for any participants. Our masking guidelines may change depending on current circumstances.

Yes. There may be situations when PPP has made agreements to wear masks. The directors will make it clear if this applies in a given situation. The policy may also change at any point depending on local conditions and regulations.

We currently require proof of negative tests prior to unmasking for tech week and performances. Check in with your stage manager for details of how and when to submit this proof.

You do not need to inform PPP if you are getting tested or provide them with a copy of negative results. However, if you receive a positive COVID-19 test, please isolate and contact PPP staff for further instructions.

No. If you are sick, have had an exposure to COVID-19 or receive a positive COVID-19 test, please do not come to rehearsal, and contact PPP staff immediately to discuss next steps.

For additional details about testing, please expand the section under this one.

When should I get tested?

Ideally, the test should be taken as close as possible to the start of tech week / performance weekend but while still allowing enough time to obtain the results beforehand. Many PCR tests take 1-3 days to get the result, so you may want to schedule a test 2-3 days before. If you have access to a rapid test, you may want to take it the day of or the day before the start of tech week/performance weekend.

Where can I get tested?

There are multiple sites that offer testing. There are at-home tests that can be obtained. This in an incomplete list of sites you may try:

Do I have to schedule a test ahead of time?

Many testing sites have limited slots available for testing, so it’s often best to schedule an appointment ahead of time.

Does it cost money to get tested?

Many testing sites are free, but some are not. Check with the location ahead of time. Many free testing sites will ask you for your insurance information for administrative purposes, and most insurance companies do not require a copay for COVID-19 testing. Most of these sites will still test you even if you do not have insurance.

What if I’m having trouble getting tested?

PPP has a limited number of rapid tests available for use.

Does it matter what kind of test I use?

The PPP policy refers to active viral COVID-19 tests. There are many types of viral tests but look for names such as PCR, NAAT, or antigen. Both professional as well as at home tests can be used. Warning: Many sites offer antibody tests (or serology tests) which do not detect active infections, and these are not the tests referred to in the PPP policy.
